Upcoming co-op games give a group something to plan around: a launch night, a new world nobody has figured out yet, and that first session where everyone is equally lost. The fun of co-op comes from shared problems, whether you are covering a friend during a horde wave or splitting chores in a seaside witch town. Below are the co-op games Steam still lists as unreleased, followed by recent releases and Early Access games your crew can play tonight.

Upcoming co-op games Steam lists for 2026 or Coming soon

Of all the upcoming co-op games here, these two have the firmest release labels on Steam right now. Neither has an exact day listed, so add them to your wishlist but don’t mark a date on the calendar yet.

Witchbrook is a witch life-sim set in Mossport, a seaside town where you arrive as the newest student at Witchbrook College. You attend classes, finish assignments and build up your magic, while the town keeps its own schedule around you: people work their shifts, students cram in the library, and seasonal events mark the year as winter snow gives way to spring flowers. Making friends and finding love sit alongside your studies.

It is the gentlest of the upcoming co-op games on this list, made for groups who would rather share a town than a battlefield. Steam lists Single-player and Online Co-op, and the store describes it as a life-sim for up to four players. It is developed by Chucklefish and Robotality and published by Chucklefish. Steam lists the release as 2026, with no day given. Our Witchbrook release date page follows it, and if you want something in the same spirit right now, try our games like Stardew Valley.

In 4:LOOP you play one of four ordinary people who somehow survived an alien invasion that turned most of humanity to glass. A moon-sized mothership hangs overhead, robots are hunting you, and your crew has to bring the ship down. You will die a lot, and the game is designed around that. You can “reprint” fallen teammates, and each failed attempt sends you back with new gear and more of the story. That cycle of fail, adapt and retry is what players mean by a roguelite: each attempt starts fresh, but some progress carries over.

It suits squads who enjoy improvising when missions change partway through. Steam lists Multi-player, Online Co-op and Cross-Platform Multiplayer, but no single-player, so you will want a group. It is developed by Bad Robot Games LLC and published by PlayStation Publishing LLC. Steam lists it as Coming soon.

Announced co-op games still waiting on a release date

Steam lists these three as “To be announced.” Each has a full store page, but only the studios know when they will launch, so be skeptical of anyone else who gives you a date. Among upcoming co-op games, these are the ones to follow rather than plan a game night around.

Den of Wolves is a co-op heist shooter from 10 Chambers. Its store page says it comes from the creator of PAYDAY: The Heist, PAYDAY 2 and GTFO. You and your crew are criminals for hire in Midway City, an unregulated corporate zone, running jobs that range from industrial espionage and sabotage to theft and assassination. Each job follows the same arc: pick your approach, buy weapons, gadgets and intel, get past security, then pull it off. The store says missions can swing from stealth to full combat and back again.

It suits friends who like planning a job as much as shooting their way out of one, and the store says sessions can fit into 20 minutes or two hours. Steam lists Multi-player and Online Co-op with no single-player. Developer and publisher: 10 Chambers. Release: To be announced.

State of Decay 3 puts you in charge of a community of survivors years after a zombie outbreak, now facing a new zombie evolution. You reclaim territory, scavenge, build defenses, craft explosives and recruit other groups of survivors once they trust you. It also has permadeath: a survivor who dies stays dead, so every supply run is a gamble.

It suits players who enjoy the management side of survival, choosing where to live, what to build and who to bring in, with friends helping you build up your settlements. Steam lists Single-player, Online Co-op, Cross-Platform Multiplayer and full controller support. It is developed by Undead Labs and published by Xbox Game Studios. Release: To be announced.

Blight: Survival is a medieval action-horror game set in the no man’s land between two kingdoms at war, where a plague called the Blight turns people into monsters. You play as one of the Writhens, sent in to find and destroy its source. It is PvE (players versus computer-controlled enemies), with close-up, brutal combat and ideas borrowed from roguelites and extraction games.

Pick it if you want co-op that is tense rather than goofy. You can play solo or bring up to three friends. Steam lists Single-player, Online Co-op and Cross-Platform Multiplayer. It is developed by Haenir Studio and published by Behaviour Interactive. Release: To be announced. For more dread while you wait, see our best horror games on Steam.

New co-op games from 2026 you can play now

Gears of War: E-Day is an origin story set fourteen years before the original Gears of War. You fight alongside Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde first breaks through the ground. Gears is a third-person shooter series, and the store page says up to four players can team up online across the campaign, Horde Siege and Versus. Horde Siege is the wave-survival mode, rebuilt for bigger maps. You pick a class (Assault, Marksman, Medic or Breacher), drop in as a four-player squad, and can join other squads to take on shared objectives and world bosses.

It suits shooter groups who want a story campaign plus a mode they can keep returning to. Steam lists Online Co-op, Online PvP, Cross-Platform Multiplayer and In-App Purchases. Released October 6, 2026, developed by The Coalition and published by Xbox Game Studios. Steam reviews: Mostly Positive.

Palworld is an open-world survival and crafting game about creatures called Pals. They fight with you, farm your fields, mine ore, generate electricity and staff your factories. You can also ride them across land, sea and sky. Watch out for the poaching syndicate roaming the world. The game’s appeal is how it grows from scrappy survival into a running, automated base.

It is a strong pick for groups who love building something together over many evenings. Steam lists Single-player, Online Co-op, Cross-Platform Multiplayer and Steam Workshop. Steam lists the release as July 9, 2026. Developer and publisher: Pocketpair. Steam reviews: Very Positive, with the largest review count of any game here. Toxic Commando is a first-person shooter for a four-player squad sent to stop the Sludge God and its undead horde. It runs on Saber’s Swarm Engine, the same tech behind World War Z and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, so the infected come at you in huge waves. The co-op is hands-on: you revive teammates, share ammo and cover each other. On the semi-open maps you can find vehicles, some armed and others fitted with tools like winches.

It suits friends who want loud, low-pressure action and a lot of laughs. Steam lists Single-player, Online Co-op and Cross-Platform Multiplayer. Released March 12, 2026, developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment. Steam reviews: Mostly Positive.

Mistfall Hunter is a third-person dark fantasy extraction action RPG. In an extraction game, you enter a dangerous area, grab loot, and only keep it if you reach an exit alive. Here that exit is a Returner Woodling, and dying costs you everything you carried in. You fight corrupted creatures and also rival players, which makes it PvPvE (players versus players and environment). Each class mixes skills, talents and gear.

It suits teams who enjoy high stakes and don’t mind other players hunting them. Steam lists Multi-player, Online Co-op, Online PvP and In-App Purchases. Released July 29, 2026, developed by Bellring Games and published by Skystone Games. Steam reviews are Mixed, so check recent reviews before your group commits.

Co-op games in Early Access that are still growing

Early Access means a game is on sale and playable while the studio is still building it, adding content and changing systems over time. These four work a lot like upcoming co-op games that you can start early: their final versions are still to come, but your group can already play them.

Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure on a new alien world. On the way to a new home, something goes wrong with the colony ship CICADA, and its AI insists the mission continues while you are left stranded. You explore the biomes, craft tools, build custom bases and travel in a Tadpole submersible, slowly uncovering ruins and the planet’s secrets.

It suits explorers who like a mystery that gets deeper as you dive. The store says it is designed as a single-player game that you can also play online with up to three friends, and you choose from four pre-designed characters. Steam lists Online Co-op and Cross-Platform Multiplayer. Early Access launched May 14, 2026. Developer and publisher: Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Steam reviews: Very Positive.

Slay the Spire 2 is a roguelike deckbuilder. You start each run with a small deck of cards, add cards, relics and potions as you climb, and start from scratch when you fall. The sequel adds new and returning characters, new cards, and an all-new co-op mode for up to four players.

It is the calmest co-op pick here, built on turn-based strategy rather than reflexes, which suits friends who like talking through each decision. Steam lists Single-player and Online Co-op, and it is the only game in this list on Windows, macOS and Linux. Early Access launched March 5, 2026. Developer and publisher: Mega Crit. In Grounded 2 you are shrunk to the size of an ant again, this time in a park and playground that is much larger than the first game’s backyard. You craft weapons and armor, build a base, and ride buggies, creatures that carry you around and fight with you. Archetypes let each player lean into a different style, which works well in a group.

It suits friends who enjoy survival crafting with a playful feel. Steam lists Single-player and Online Co-op, and the store mentions continuing your adventure in a shared world. Early Access launched July 29, 2025. It is developed by Obsidian Entertainment and Eidos-Montréal and published by Xbox Game Studios. Steam reviews: Very Positive.

No Rest for the Wicked comes from Moon Studios, the team behind Ori and the Blind Forest. It is an action RPG with Souls-like combat: slow, weighty fights where every attack commits you and mistakes get punished. You explore a hand-crafted world torn apart by plague, collect loot, and build a home whose crafting ties back into the rest of the game. The island changes over time as new events and vendors appear.

It suits groups who want a challenge. The store promises seamless online co-op for up to four players with the full game shared, multiple difficulty options and no microtransactions. Early Access launched April 18, 2024, and Steam lists Gamepad Recommended. Steam reviews: Mostly Positive. More RPGs on the way are in our upcoming RPG games list.

How to choose between upcoming co-op games

Choosing a co-op game is really about choosing for your group. These checks only take a minute on each Steam page.

  1. Count your players. Most picks here are built for four. Witchbrook, Blight: Survival, Gears of War: E-Day, Subnautica 2, Slay the Spire 2 and No Rest for the Wicked all say so on their store pages.
  2. Read the feature line, not just the trailer. “Online Co-op” is the tag that matters. “Multi-player” alone can mean competitive play only.
  3. Check for Single-player. 4:LOOP, Den of Wolves and Mistfall Hunter list no single-player, so they are best when your group can meet up regularly.
  4. Look for Cross-Platform Multiplayer if some friends play on other systems. 4:LOOP, State of Decay 3, Blight: Survival, Gears of War: E-Day, Palworld, Toxic Commando and Subnautica 2 all list it.
  5. Read the release label literally. “Coming soon,” a bare year and “To be announced” are all different, and none of them is a date.

A worked example

Say your group has three PC players, one of whom is on a Mac, and you want something to play together this week. That rules out every unreleased game, and of the released ones, Slay the Spire 2 is the only one that lists macOS. If everyone is on Windows and you want a shooter, Gears of War: E-Day and Toxic Commando both offer four-player online co-op. If your group prefers cozy games, wishlist Witchbrook and play Palworld or Grounded 2 in the meantime.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Assuming every multiplayer game is co-op. Exoborne, Sharkmob’s open-world extraction shooter, lists only Multi-player on Steam, with no Co-op tag, and its release is To be announced. That is why it is not one of the upcoming co-op games on this list.
  • Treating Early Access as finished. Content, balance and save systems can change between updates.
  • Ignoring a Mixed review summary. Slay the Spire 2 and Mistfall Hunter both have Mixed reviews, so read the recent ones to see what is splitting players.
  • Missing the PvP and In-App Purchases tags on Gears of War: E-Day and Mistfall Hunter if your group wants a purely cooperative game.

Are there upcoming couch co-op games on PC or PS5?

If you are looking for couch co-op (several people on one screen, usually with split-screen), none of the games here list local or split-screen co-op on Steam. Every one is online co-op, so each friend plays on their own machine. Gamescape covers Steam, and these store pages list Windows (plus macOS and Linux for Slay the Spire 2), so console release plans are outside what we track here. For more cooperative games built around playing as a pair, see our games like It Takes Two.

Release labels change, so we keep tracking upcoming co-op games on our upcoming games and release dates pages. When one of these finally gets a date, that is where it will show up first.

Questions and answers

What co-op games are expected to be released in 2026?

Of the unreleased co-op games covered here, Witchbrook is the one Steam lists for 2026, with no exact day given. 4:LOOP is listed as Coming soon. Den of Wolves, State of Decay 3 and Blight: Survival are all To be announced. Several co-op games have already come out on Steam in 2026, including Slay the Spire 2, Subnautica 2, Palworld, Mistfall Hunter and Gears of War: E-Day.

What are the best co-op games right now?

Among recent Steam releases, Subnautica 2, Palworld and Grounded 2 all have Very Positive user reviews and support online co-op. For shooters, Gears of War: E-Day and John Carpenter's Toxic Commando are both Mostly Positive and support four-player online co-op. For something slower, Slay the Spire 2 adds co-op for up to four players to the roguelike deckbuilder, though its Steam reviews are currently Mixed.

Which new co-op games came out on Steam in 2026?

Steam lists these co-op releases for 2026: Slay the Spire 2 (March 5, Early Access), John Carpenter's Toxic Commando (March 12), Subnautica 2 (May 14, Early Access), Palworld (July 9), Mistfall Hunter (July 29) and Gears of War: E-Day (October 6). All of them support online co-op, and several also list cross-platform multiplayer.

Do any upcoming co-op games have couch co-op on PC?

None of the games in this list include local or split-screen co-op in their Steam features. Every one lists online co-op, and several add cross-platform multiplayer, so friends can join from their own machines. If you want to share one screen, look for Shared/Split Screen Co-op in a game's Steam feature list before you buy.

What does Early Access mean for a co-op game?

Early Access means the game is on sale and playable while the studio is still developing it. Content, balance and features can change, and more is added over time. Subnautica 2, Slay the Spire 2, Grounded 2 and No Rest for the Wicked are all in Early Access on Steam. Your group can start now, but expect updates that change things between sessions.

Is State of Decay 3 coming to Steam?

Yes. State of Decay 3 has a Steam store page, but Steam lists its release as To be announced. Undead Labs is developing it and Xbox Game Studios is publishing it. Steam lists single-player, online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. You lead a community of survivors in a zombie-plagued world, build settlements with friends, and risk permadeath, where a character who dies stays dead.
